During the week of Christmas of 2019, a very busy time when local tourists visit La Senda Verde, thirteen different wild animals arrived to the animal refuge. All of them came from the department of Oruro, amongst them turtles, a southern mealy parrot and a boa constrictor.

This is right after four different howling monkeys had arrived, one after the other one, the first from the Biological station of Beni and the rest from different places near the town of Rurrenabaque. In total it’s two males and two females.

On Friday the 27th of December, arrived a Tamandua, an arboreous anteater. This is additional to the 14 mentioned animals that arrived the week before and these days we are expecting to receive yet another howling monkey coming from Cochabamba that is without a tail.

As we are writing this, Hernan, the 2 year-old male Jaguar of whom different media sources have published about, is being transported to LSV from Santa Cruz. We are also expecting a female Jaguar, a Margay and a Night monkey.

All of this is happening after 5 Capuchin monkeys arrived at the end of October, one after the other, in the span of a few weeks.

The animal refuge has seen a dramatic increase in animal arrivals that has risen the number to above 850 resident wild animals. At the beginning of 2019, that number was around 740.

With the arrival of these animals and specifically because amongst them are three felines, feeding expenditures will now go through the roof. For this reason we attentively suggest donating and supporting this end of year to Senda Verde’s  Wild Calling campaign.
