Kids with disabilities from the AVANRE school in La Paz have been producing stuffed margay toys to put on sale, which will benefit the construction of the so much needed new Margay Enclosure at La Senda Verde. It’s an initiative that not only gathers funds for the Margays, but also for these very special kids.
AVANRE seeks to help kids with down syndrome get included in society and be productive, that’s why they’ve been producing handcrafts which also serves as occupational therapy for them. The Margay toys will be the second initiative these kids have with La Senda Verde.
The first one, which occurred during the months of July and August, was producing stuffed Andean bears “Jucumarsitos” to support the also much needed new fence for the Andean Bears at LSV. People in La Paz responded very well to this initiative, they have been buying all the stuffed bears the kids at AVANRE have produced so far.
It is time to see how the new stuffed Margays do. Since this is a community and volunteer initiative, we have no resources nor personnel to ship these toys. Therefore all people who wish to buy a stuffed Margay need to pick them up at our office in La Paz.
