Wildlife trafficking is the world’s third most lucrative illegal activity and the victims, rescued wild animals, don’t stop arriving to La Senda Verde. For this reason we are permanently on campaign to raise funds and build new enclosures for the new arrivals.
During the month of September we finished building a small enclosure for Mara. Mara is a spider monkey that is paralysed from the waist down as a result of her been taken captive. She can’t move her legs and hurts herself easily. For this reason she needs a special enclosure that is padded where she can be and not get hurt. The enclosure has been finished and Mara is already in it. During the day she shares the enclosure with the baby spider monkeys, Ficus, Silala and Fisca.
During this month of October we will be finishing a new large enclosure for the new feline, the Leopardus tigrinus. Like all felines, he needs a lot of space. His enclosure has been built between Cubai the Jaguar’s enclosure and the enclosure of Ajayu the bear. The main structure is finished and we will be adding the metallic mesh these days. This enclosure was built completely with the funds donated by Fundación Kantutani.
