Last Sunday we received a new female Titi monkey, known locally as lucachi, that was turned in by the government officials of Oruro. They found her in the city of Llalagua, in the Potosí department.
When a new animal arrives, we evaluate its overall state of health in a scale of 1 to 5, being 1 the lowest and 5 the highest. This female monkey was evaluated in 2, meaning she was not well cared for.
Looking at the morphology of the animal, we suspect it is a Plecturocebus pallescens or a white-coated Titi, but this needs to be confirmed by further studies yet to be done. The new Titi monkey will be put into quarantine and after she is cleared she will be put in with the other Titi monkeys.
You can avoid having animals like this monkey suffer, don’t buy wild animals for pets.
